(D) Center shaft (E) O-ring seal (F) Prying groove
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
The center shaft (D) is under spring pressure. Restrain the spring pressure under the center shaft and turn the center shaft (D) counterclockwise. Do not unscrew the center shaft (D) without restraining the spring pressure. The spring pressure will release when the threads on the center shaft are disengaged. Remove the purge plate assembly and desiccant spring from the filter cartridge. Remove the desiccant filter from the housing. It may be necessary to loosen the canister by prying upward with a screwdriver. Use the groove (F) to pry the canister upward.

(H) Deflector plate
Invert the canister. Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining ring that holds the deflector plate (H). Remove the deflector plate and the oil separator pad. Remove the larger retaining ring that is located on the outer tube. Remove the following items from the canister housing: inner tube assembly, lower retainer screen and filter pad.
Clean all the components before reassembly. Install the filter pad and the screen into the bottom end of the canister housing. The retainer screen rests on the retainer ring. The filter pad must be facing the desiccant. Install the following items in the canister housing: inner tube assembly, retaining ring, oil seperator pad and deflector plate. The deflector plate is secured by the retaining ring on the inner tube.Note: Both filter pads must completely cover the respective retainer screens. This prevents the desiccant from rubbing against the retainer springs.

(I) Upper retainer screen
Place the canister in the upright position. Pour the desiccant into the canister. Tamp the desiccant into the canister. Fill the canister until the desiccant reaches inner tube retaining groove. Install the upper retainer screen (I) and filter pad over the inner tube. The filter pad must face the new desiccant. Push the screen (I) downward until the small retaining ring can be installed. Insert the assembled canister into the housing. Reassemble the unit in the reverse order. Replace all the worn O-rings with the new O-rings that are provided in the kit.Note: O-rings, gaskets, and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the same sealing properties as a new O-ring. Use 1U-6396 O-Ring Assembly Compound during the assembly procedure.
