Front Wear Pads
Measure the clearances between the front wear pads and the side of the extending boom section at each side.
Measure the clearances between the front wear pads and the top of the extending boom section.
The clearance at each location must not exceed 3 mm (0.12 inch). If the clearances are excessive, adjustments must be made.

Raise the boom and remove the stand. Fully retract the boom and support the boom in the horizontal position. In order to support the boom, install cribbing under the coupler.
Remove the service cover from the rear of the boom. Unscrew the four attaching screws and slide the service cover rearward. Lift the service cover away from the machine.
In order to check the wear pads at the rear of the boom, it will be necessary to remove six steel pipes and two hoses. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR5162, "Machine Systems" for additional information.

Rear Wear Pads
Measure the clearances between the rear wear pads and the side of the fixed boom sections at each side.
Measure the clearances between the rear wear pads and the top of the fixed boom sections.
The clearance at each location must not exceed 3 mm (0.12 inch). If the clearances are excessive, adjustments must be made.
Reinstall the six steel pipes and two hoses. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR5162, "Machine Systems" for additional information.Adjustment
It is necessary to remove the six steel pipes and two hoses from the rear of the fixed boom in order to perform the adjustments to the rear boom wear pads. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR5162, "Machine Systems" for additional information.

Rear Wear Pads (Top)
Loosen nuts (1) that secure the rear top wear pads. Install sufficient shims in order to reduce the clearance to 0.75 mm (0.030 inch). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 55 10 N m (40.5 7.3 lb ft).Note: Shims at the rear of the boom have an elongated slot that allows the shim to be installed or removed from the rear without the need to remove the wear pads.

Rear Wear Pads (Side)
Remove screws (2) that secure the rear side wear pads. Install sufficient shims in order to reduce the clearance to 0.75 mm (0.030 inch) at each side. Install sufficient shims in order to produce an equal clearance between the boom sections at each side. It may be necessary to install more shims at one side than the other side. Tighten the screws to a torque of 55 10 N m (40.5 7.3 lb ft).
Install the six steel pipes and two hoses at the rear of the boom. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR5162, "Machine Systems" for additional information.

Raise the boom in order to remove the cribbing. Fully extend the boom and lower the boom to the horizontal position. Support the boom under the extending section.

Front Wear Pads (Bottom)
Remove bolts (3) and washers (4) that secure the bottom wear pads on the fixed boom section. Remove retainer plates (5) and wear pads
