Illustration 1. Location of new parts.When the new parts are used, a new adjustment procedure for pinion bearing preload must also be used. The new procedure is already in the 613C Tractor Service Manual. The new procedure is not in the 950B Loader Service Manual. When the new parts are used in 950B Loaders, substitute the following procedure for Steps 1 through 6 of the "Differential and Bevel Gear Adjustment Procedure" in the Service Manual.
Adjustment Procedure:
Pinion Preload Adjustment
1. Install the bearing cups in the housing. The bearing cups must be seated against the shoulders in the housing.2. Install the bearing cone next to the teeth on the pinion. The bearing cone must be seated against the shoulder on the pinion.3. Lubricate bearing and install the pinion in the housing. Lubricate and install the bearing cone, washer and nut.4. Position the assembly in a soft jawed vise. Tighten the vise against the teeth on the pinion. While turning the housing, tighten the nut until the torque needed to turn the pinion is: New bearings ... 0.7 to 1.1 N m (6 to 10 lb in)Used bearings ... 0.35 to 0.55 N m (3 to 5 lb in)Check to make sure that there is zero end play of the pinion shaft.
5. When the torque needed to turn the pinion is correct, stake the nut by peening the collar of the nut into the key slot in the pinion shaft. See illustration 2 for the correct tooling and dimensions. The nut may be reused if the collar is not cracked during removal or restaking.
