WINCH CONTROL LEVER (REEL IN Position)When the control lever is pulled to the REEL IN position, the control valve activates the clutch cylinder (11) in the clutch to move the clutch band (8) against the inside diameter of the drum (7) for REEL IN operation. In the REEL IN position, the rotation of the clutch and brake drum puts brake spring assembly (10) in compression to release brake band (6).When the control lever is pushed to the FREE SPOOL position, the control valve activates the brake cylinder (9), which releases the tension on the brake band (6). Releasing the brake lets the drum turn freely. The control lever is held in the FREE SPOOL position by a detent in the control guard assembly.
WINCH CONTROL LEVER (FREE SPOOL Position)When neither the clutch or brake cylinders in the winch is activated, a spring in the control valve holds the control lever in the HOLD position. The control lever will go to the HOLD position from the REEL IN or the FREE SPOOL position when released.Winch Pump
When the rotation of the cam moves follower (8) and piston (6) against the force of spring (7), the piston moves into chamber (3). This causes an increase in the pressure of the oil in chamber (3). The pressure oil first moves ball (9) to close inlet (1) from the reservoir. The pressure oil then moves ball (11) off seat (10). The pressure oil can then go into chamber (5) and through passage (4) to outlet (2). The rotation of the cam will then let spring (7) move follower (8) and piston (6) back. The suction, caused by the piston moving out of chamber (3), moves ball (9) to open inlet (1) to chamber (3). This fills chamber (3) with oil from the reservoir. The movement of the piston then causes an increase in the pressure of the oil in chamber (5). The pressure oil goes through passage (4) to outlet (2). After the piston moves through its return stroke, the rotation of the cam on the pinion shaft will start the cycle again.
PUMP (PISTON AT BOTTOM OF PRESSURE STROKE)
1. Inlet from hydraulic oil reservoir. 2. Outlet to accumulator and control valve. 3. Chamber. 4. Passage to outlet. 5. Chamber. 6. Piston. 7. Spring. 8. Follower. 9. Ball. 10. Valve seat. 11. Ball. The pump operates on the principal of pressure compensation. When the oil pressure in chamber (5) becomes approximately 1000 psi (6900 kPa), the pressure will hold the piston at the bottom of its stroke against the force of spring (7). Follower (8) and piston (6) will not follow the rotation of the cam on the pinion shaft. Only when the pressure becomes less than 1000 psi (6900 kPa) will the force of spring (7) move the follower and the piston to follow the rotation of the cam.Winch Control Valve
In the HOLD position, oil from the pump goes through inlet passage (16) to the center of seat (6). Since spring (8) holds seat (6)
