Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Table 1 lists the filters used with different versions of the CX28 Transmission. The non-PTO option uses shorter filters. The front transmission manifold for the single spin on filter can also be modified to accept remote filters. These remote filters are used with the CX31 and CX35 On-Highway Transmissions.

Remove oil filter housing (1). When the housing is removed, oil will leak from filter manifold (2). Discard the used oil filter element that is inside of oil filter housing (1). Additional oil will drain when you remove the filter. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Inspect the seal on oil filter housing (1). If the seal is damaged, replace the seal with a new seal.
Install the new oil filter element in oil filter housing (1). See Table 1 for a list of CX28 oil filters.
Install oil filter housing (1) and the new element onto filter manifold (2). Tighten oil filter housing (1) to a torque of 55 5 N m (41 4 lb ft). Do not use an air wrench to tighten.

(4) Filler tube
Remove the dipstick at filler tube (4). Add oil, if necessary.
Make sure that the transmission is in NEUTRAL. Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check for any leaks and make the necessary repairs.
Observe the oil level at filler tube (4) when the oil is warm and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position. Make sure that the parking brake is engaged.
Stop the engine. If necessary, add oil.Spin-On Filter
