Improper manufacturing and welding procedure problemhas been identified on certain oil make up tanks. The corner fillet weldsin the front panel and top panel of the tank have been ground smooth afterwelding. This process weakened the welds and they may crack, resultingin the leaking of up to 30 gallons of oil from the oil make up tank.AFFECTED PRODUCT

Turn off all supply power, prevent the enginefrom starting and lock out the equipment before working on or inside theequipment.Only qualified electrical service personnelare to work on equipment.Replace all devices, doors, and covers beforeturning power on to this equipment.Observe all safety procedures as indicatedin applicable Caterpillar manuals.
Inspect the tank. This tank is located under thehorizontal radiator in the front of the power module. The tank is madefrom two u shaped panels, the rear panel is the larger one, with the tankmounting feet. The front panel forms the bottom, front and the top withopening for the filler gage.
The suspect tank may have ground welds, will behave the part number (1135834) stamped on the vertical side of the tank,and will be wet painted.
Tanks that do not need to be replaced will havethe part number (1135834) stamped in the tank horizontal mounting footand are powder coated.
Inspect the front and top welds where the panelsjoin together. Look for corner fillet welds on both sides of the tank frontand top that may have been ground after welding. The ground welds are appearingas smooth radii, with very little of the original weld bead visible. Insome cases, you may see crack propagation in the middle of the radius.See Figure A for location of welds.

If the suspect ground welds are found, installa new 1135834 Tank As. If they are not found, the inspection is completeand no further actions are necessary.
Make sure tank is empty. Drain it as necessaryand retain the oil in a clean container. Close the tank
