Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
There are two hydraulic pumps. One pump is for steering and the other pump is for the implements. The efficiency test should be performed on each of the pumps. Perform the following procedures in order to check the pump efficiency.Preparation for Testing
Release the hydraulic system pressure.
Install Tooling (D) and an air supply to the hydraulic tank. Supply 40 psi to 60 psi of air.
Ensure that the pump cases are full of oil prior to performing the following procedures. Procedure for Testing the Steering Pump

(1) Steering pump
(2) Case drain line
Disconnect pump case drain line (2) from steering pump (1). Install Tooling (C) between pump (1) and Tooling (A). Install Tooling (B) between Tooling (A) and line (2).
Operate the engine at high idle.
Slowly turn the front wheels against the steering stops. Continue to turn the front wheels against the steering stops in order to stall the pump. Write down the reading from Tooling (A).
Stop the engine.
If the reading from Tooling (A) exceeds 22.0 L/min (5.8 US gpm), the pump must be rebuilt or replaced. Procedure for Testing the Implement Pump

(3) Implement pump
(4) Case drain line
Disconnect pump case drain line (4) from implement pump (3). Install Tooling (C) between pump (3) and Tooling (A). Install Tooling (B) between Tooling (A) and line (4).
Operate the engine at high idle.
Fully retract the wheel lean cylinder. Continue to retract the cylinder in order to stall the pump. Write down the reading from Tooling (A).
Stop the engine.
If the reading from Tooling (A) exceeds 17.4 L/min (4.6 US gpm), the pump must be rebuilt or replaced.
