Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install two guide bolts (2) for each gasket on the aftercooler. Put gaskets (1) in position on the cylinder block.

Fasten a hoist to the rear aftercooler (3). Put 7M-7456 Bearing Mount Compound on the threads of the bolts (4). Install the aftercooler. Install the bolts that hold the aftercooler in place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 50 10 N m (37 7 lb ft).

Be sure that the O-ring seals are in position in the ends of pipes (9). Put glycerine on the O-ring seals.
Fasten a hoist to the front aftercooler. Put the aftercooler in position on the cylinder block and install the bolts.
Install the bolts that hold the pipes (9) to the rear aftercooler.
If the pipes (8) and the other pipes (10) were separated, put new O-ring seals in position on pipes. Put glycerine in the bore of the pipes and in the seals. Install the two pipes (8) and the other two pipes (10) in the area between the front aftercooler and the rear aftercooler on the O-ring seals. Install the two pipes (8) and the other two pipes (10) in the area between the front aftercooler and the rear aftercooler. Note: Put glycerine on all of the O-ring seals before assembly.
Install the tube (6).
Install the tube (7).
Connect the electrical connection (5).

Put the elbow (14) in position on the aftercooler and on the tube (13). Install the bolts and spacers (15).
Install the retainers and bolts that hold the tube (13) in place in the elbow (14).

Be sure that the O-ring seals are in place in the flanges (11). Install the flanges (11) and the tube (12) as an assembly.

Install the housing (16) and the other housing (20) on the rear aftercooler housing with the bolts (17) and the other bolts (19).
Install the tube (21).
Install the bolt (18) in order to connect the linkage.

Install pipes (22) in the housing (20).
Put the gaskets in the area between the turbochargers and the elbows (23) and the other elbows (24). Install the elbows.

Connect the electrical connection (25).
Install the tube assembly (26).
Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operation And Maintenance Guide. End By:
Install the exhaust manifolds.
