The front idlers keep the tracks in alignment with the sprockets.The tracks are adjusted by the movement of the front idlers. The track adjusters move the front idlers and the track adjusters hold the front idlers in position.The position of the front idlers is controlled by shims (5). The front idlers must have correct alignment with track roller frames (7). Refer to Specifications, "Track Roller Frame Alignment" that is located in this manual for the alignment procedure.Lubrication of the Front Idlers
If lubricant is added to the idler on the machine, the idler must be in the LOW position.

Lubrication of the front idlers (11) Plug (12) End bearing (13) Center passage (14) Shaft (15) Duo-Cone sealsWhen lubricant is added to the idler off the machine, shaft (14) must be in a horizontal position.Lubricant is sent into center passage (13) through the 5M-2080 Nozzle. The lubricant fills reservoirs around shaft (14). When the reservoirs are full, the air and the excess lubricant are forced through the relief grooves in the nozzle.When the lubricant does not contain bubbles, remove the nozzle and install the plug. Tighten the plug to a torque of 170 20 N m (125 15 lb ft).Adjusting the Position of the Front Idler
The front idler has two operating positions. A HIGH position is used with equipment at the rear of the machine. A LOW position is used with equipment at the front of the machine.Use this procedure in order to change the idler from the LOW position to the HIGH position:

Remove the idler from the track roller frame. Record the position of notch (18) with the idler in the LOW position.
Remove the bolts. Lift collars (16) on each side of the idler. Turn bearings (17) on each side of the idler and the shaft by 180 degrees. Notch (18) is now toward the rear of the machine.

Adjustment of the position of the front idler
Turn the idler by 180 degrees in the direction of the arrows. The idler is now ready to be installed in the HIGH position.

Notch (18) of the end bearing is now toward the front of the machine. The idler is in the HIGH position. The bearing that was on the right side of the track roller frame is now on the left side. The bearing that was on the left side is now on the right side.
Install the front idler.
Do Steps 1 through 5 on the front idler on the other track roller frame.
