330C L (HAA, KDD1-885, RBH, CAP, GKX), 330C LN (CGZ) EXCAVATORS
Component Code(s) 1000, 1152SUBJECT: INCORRECT BOLTS FOR THE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKETS MAY HAVE
BEEN INSTALLED ON CERTAIN EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
Bolts of the incorrect length may have been installed on the engine mounting brackets. The short bolts may loosen and fail. Bolts that fail may cause a failure of the mounting brackets.
SOLUTION:
If the 8T-4140 Bolts in the engine mounting brackets loosen and/or fail, install new 7X-2554 Bolts. The new bolts are 10 mm (0.4 inch) longer and prevent the bolt failure on the engine mounting brackets. Use the procedure that follows in order to replace loose or failed bolts for the engine mounting brackets.
Replacement Of The Bolts For The Engine Mounting Brackets
Attach a "Do Not Operate" warning tag or a similar warning tag to the start switch or to the controls before you service the equipment or before you repair the equipment.
Make sure that you pay attention to the condition of the worker?s feet when getting on or off the machine and while working on the upper frame.
Make sure that the hood for the engine is securely locked in the open position. The opening and closing of the engine hood creates a pinching surface.
Make sure that wrenches and hand tools are used properly in order to stay clear of pinching surfaces.
Make sure that the muffler, the radiator, and other components that dissipate heat are cool before you repair the equipment.
Make sure that the repairman working on the upper side of the machine avoids dropping tools on other workers.

Loosen the bolts and remove the belly guard.
Illustration 3. Hood Securely Locked In The Open Position
Open the hood for the engine and lock the hood securely in the open position.

(1) 7X-2554 Bolt
(2) 9X-8257 Washer
Loosen one of the four bolts shown in Illustration 4. Remove the bolt and washer.
Install a new bolt (1) and washer (2). Torque the bolt to 24.5 ? 4.1 kgfm (175 ? 30 lb ft).

Inspect the bracket and make sure that the bracket is oriented correctly. Make sure that there is no gap between the bracket and the engine block.
Repeat Step 11 through Step 13 for the remaining three bolts.
Paint the new bolt and washer with touch up paint.
Reassemble the belly guard. Refer to Illustration 2. Torque the bolts to 10.2 ? 2.0 kgfm (75 ? 15 lb ft).
