Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the bucket to the ground with a slight downward pressure. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

The transmission oil filter is on the left side of the machine near the articulation joint. Use a socket or box wrench to remove the transmission oil filter.
Discard the used element.
Use a clean, nonflammable solvent to clean the filter mounting base.
Insert a new filter element into the filter housing.
Inspect the filter housing seal. Replace the seal, if damaged.
Install the filter housing onto the housing base.Note: Only use hand tools to tighten.
Tighten the housing using a socket or box wrench capable of rotating the housing to overcome proper O-ring compression. Tighten until housing rotation stops.
Check tightness by attempting to turn housing by hand. Repeat using a suitable hand tool, if necessary.
Start the engine. Apply the service brakes
Slowly operate the transmission controls to circulate the transmission oil.
Move the transmission control lever into NEUTRAL. Engage the parking brake. Inspect the transmission oil filter housing for leaks.
Check the transmission oil level.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
Stop the engine.
