PIN 1K6540 - Caterpillar

1. Remove bracket (1) that holds the refrigerant compressor in position on the engine.2. Fasten a hoist to the front of the engine. Lift the front of the engine until the weight is off of its support.3. Remove the bolts that hold the oil pan to the timing gear cover. 4. Loosen the other bolts that hold the oil pan to the engine. Put spacers (2) between the oil pan and oil pan plate as shown. Lower the engine on its support.
Do not cause damage to the oil pan and oil pan plate gaskets.
5. Remove trunnion (3) from the timing gear cover. 6. Remove covers (4) and (5) from the rear side of the timing gear cover.7. Remove the bolts and nuts that hold the timing gear cover to the front of the engine.8. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws at the bottom of the timing gear cover. 9. Turn the forcing screws in evenly until the timing gear cover is free of the dowels on the front of the engine. Remove timing gear cover (6).Install Timing Gear Cover
1. Install a new gasket on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where the gasket makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan plate. Put timing gear cover (1) in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts and nuts that hold it. 2. Install trunnion (2) on the timing gear cover. Install the bolts that hold it. 3. Install covers (3) and (4) on the rear side of the timing gear cover. Tighten the two 5 in. bolts that hold cover (3) to a torque of 100 10 lb.ft. (135 14 N m).4. Fasten a hoist to the front of the engine. Lift the engine until the weight is off its support.5. Remove the spacers between the oil pan and oil pan plate. Tighten the bolts that hold the oil pan in position.6. Install the bolts that hold the oil to the timing gear cover. Lower the engine back on its support.
