End Play Adjustment Procedure
Before assembly of components, make sure bearing cups and cones are seated in the housing by using 0.038 mm (.0015 in) shim stock or a standard feeler gauge.1. Assemble gears (1), (2) and (3), bearing cages (4), (5) and (6) and bearings. Tighten all bearing cage bolts (7) evenly.2. Position housing in a vertical position. Rotate gears back and forth several times to seat bearings.3. Measure gaps (8), (9) and (10) between housing and bearing cages.4. Add shims required to obtain 0.08 to 0.13 mm (.003 to .005 in) end play.5. Measure end play of gears (1), (2) and (3).6. If end play is less than 0.08 mm (.003 in) add shims. If end play is greater than 0.13 mm (.005 in) remove shims.7. Put 7M7260 Gasket Material on seal bore surface in cages (5) and (6). Let dry before installing seal.
