777B, 785, 789 Trucks So EquippedThe AEIS control permits manual injection of ether as required. The ether allows smooth engine operation after a cold start. This function is disabled above a certain coolant temperature to prevent ether injection into a hot engine. On earlier controls, this temperature was too low to permit smooth operation under certain conditions. Later controls, marked "Change 4" or higher, increased the maximum temperature at which manual injection is permitted from 30°C to 66°C (85°F to 150°F).
If rough operation after a cold start is encountered, even with the manual switch actuated, first check for and correct the following: Any faults that may be displayed by the AEIS control.Empty ether bottle(s).Any fault in the manual switch or its wiring.Plugged ether discharge tubes or nozzles.
If it is confirmed that there are no faults in the system and the problem only occurs when the engine is slightly warm, such as after being stopped for only a few hours, performance may be improved by installing an AEIS control marked "Change 4" or higher.
Engines equipped with optional coolant heaters may also benefit from the higher manual injection temperature of the "Change 4" control.
