Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (C) to adapter (1). The weight of adapter (1) is approximately 89 kg (196 lb). Remove bolts (2) and the washers. Remove adapter (1).

Remove and discard two bolts (4) from flywheel (3). Install Tooling (A).

Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (B) to flywheel (3). The weight of flywheel (3) is approximately 216 kg (476 lb). Remove and discard remaining bolts (4). Slide flywheel (3) on Tooling (A). Remove flywheel (3). Installation Procedure

Inspect the condition of the flywheel ring gear. Use the following procedure in order to replace the ring gear, if necessary.
Remove the damaged ring from the flywheel.
Raise the temperature of the new ring gear to a maximum temperature of 316° C (600° F).
Install the gear on the flywheel. Ensure that the chamfer of the gear teeth will be toward the pinion of the starting motor.
Install Tooling (A) into the crankshaft.
Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device in order to position flywheel (3) onto Tooling (A). The weight of flywheel (3) is approximately 216 kg (476 lb).
Illustration 5 g01327607Note: The flywheel retaining bolts must be replaced. Do not reuse flywheel retaining bolts.
Remove the suitable lifting device and slide flywheel (3) on Tooling (A). Lubricate the threads of new bolts (4) with oil. Install new bolts (4).

Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining new bolts (4).

Measurement for the length of bolts (4).
Bolts (4) are available in three different lengths.
Tighten bolts (4) with a length of 111 mm (4.4 inch) to a torque of 1100 60 N m (811 44 lb ft).
Tighten bolts (4) with a length of 120 mm (4.7 inch) to a torque of 1000 60 N m (737.6 44.3 lb ft).
Tighten bolts (4) with a length of 158 mm (6.2 inch) to a torque of 1000 60 N m (737.6 44.3 lb ft).

Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device in order to position adapter (1). The weight of adapter (1) is approximately 89 kg (196 lb). Install the washers and bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 120 20 N m (89 15 lb ft).
