Remove plug (28). Insert a suitable bar to hold differential (9) (not shown) in place.
Attach Tooling (G) to measure the back lash. The back lash should measure 0.15 - 0.45 mm (0.006 - 0.018 inch). If the backlash is too small, decrease the thickness of shims (7) under the crown wheel side bearing and increase the thickness of shims (27) under the cage side bearing by the same thickness. If the backlash is too large, decrease the thickness of shims (27) under the cage side bearing and increase the thickness of shims (7) under the crown wheel side bearing by the same thickness.

Remove four bolts (5). Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device to remove axle housing (4). The weight of axle housing (4) is approximately 395 kg (871 lb). Remove axle housing (4).

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to the bearing cone on differential (9). The weight of differential (9) is approximately 65 kg (143 lb). Use Tooling (C) and the suitable lifting device to remove differential (9). Remove differential (9).

Install thrust bearing (25) and axle (24).

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to the bearing cone on differential (9). The weight of differential (9) is approximately 65 kg (143 lb). Use Tooling (C) and the suitable lifting device to install differential (9). Install differential (9).

Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device to install axle housing (4) and the O-ring seal. Install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 560 56 N m (413 41 lb ft).
