Winch and Winch Drive Shaft (1) Winch. (2) Bevel pinion. (3) PTO shaft. (4) Transmission. Winch (1) is a Series C-500 winch. The Series C-500 winch is available in the following models: C-501, C-502 and C-503. The C-501 winch, the C-502 winch and the C-503 winch are equipped with a winch drum that is one piece. The current C-503 winches are equipped with a drum that is two-piece.Winch (1) is a single drum unit that is mounted on the rear frame of the machine. Winch (1) is driven by engine power through the torque converter and the power take-off (PTO). The winch may be operated independently or the winch may be operated while the transmission is engaged.Note: The winch will not operate when the torque converter is stalled. The winch includes an oil actuated multi-disc clutch and an oil cooled multi-disc brake. The brakes are applied with a spring and hydraulically released.PTO shaft (3) drives bevel pinion (2) on the input shaft of the winch. Bevel pinion (2) drives the bevel gear on the clutch shaft. The bevel gear drives the reel in clutch friction disc. Bevel pinion (2), the bevel gear, and the reel in clutch friction discs rotate simultaneously with the running engine. The winch uses a hydraulic system that is independent of the hydraulic system on the machine. The winch contains an oil reservoir. A gear pump that is mounted on transmission (4) is used to pump the oil out of the oil reservoir to the winch control valve. The winch control valve is mounted on the winch. The winch control valve on newer models of grapple skidders are electrically controlled with switches in the cab. The winch control valve on newer models of cable skidders are electrically controlled with a control lever in the cab. The winch control valve on earlier models of grapple skidders and current models of cable skidders are mechanically controlled with a control lever in the cab.The winch has four functions: reel in, freespool, brake on and brake off.
