Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the vibratory system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

4C8689     Flowmeter (0-5 gpm)     1    A certain amount of internal leakage is required for lubrication and cooling in the piston pumps. Leakage which is higher than the amount allowed will reduce the speed of the pump. Leakage will also prevent the pump from developing the maximum pressure. All the moving components of the piston pumps require lubrication. The moving components can be sealed in the following ways:
Seals are used.
Match two high precision machined surfaces to each other.Internal leakage in a piston pump is measured as the oil leaves the pump through the drain line which is attached to the motor case. The oil then returns to the tank.
Before you perform the testing and adjusting on the pump for leakage, the following steps must be followed:
Apply the parking brake.
Place the propel control lever in NEUTRAL.
Place the vibration selector switch in the automatic position.
Place tires under both drums.
Select the maximum vibration amplitude on the drum motor which is being checked.

Disconnect the pump case drain line (front) (2) when you test the pump. Cap both the pump case drain line (front) (2) and the outlet for the flushing oil in the pump case (1) .
Install the fabricated hose (3) and the flowmeter (4) .
Move the vibratory control switch to the MANUAL position.
Move the vibratory control switch to the drum which is being checked.
Start the engine. Run the engine at high idle.
Start the vibratory system.
The flowmeter (4) should indicate a flow less than4.7 L/min (1.25 US gpm).
When the procedure is complete, remove the hose (3). Remove the flowmeter (4) .
