Note: Only Caterpillar SE50 and SE60 screeds are covered by this service letter, and only certain screeds fall into the effected population. Before beginning this procedure, locate the serial number plate for the screed and verify that the screed serial number falls into one of the following ranges. If the screed serial number range does not fall into one of the following ranges, no action is required and the service letter should be marked as completed. No parts or labor should be charged.

Refer to the Screed Disassembly and assembly Manual if/as necessary and replace the screed extender control switch on both LH and RH screed control panels.
Note the location/orientation of the wires as they exit the potting at the rear of the rocker switch. The orientation of these wires, closer to the handle and away from the keypad, is what ensures the rocker switch orientation is correct. If installed incorrectly, the extender will move opposite of the commanded direction.
After replacement, start the machine and test the operation of the extenders from the rocker switch. Refer to the OMM as required.
