Additive pump (4) is a vane type pump that is driven through a coupling by a hydraulic motor. Additive pump (4) has relief valve (10) that is built-in and adjustable. Relief valve (10) is set at 690 kPa (100 psi). Strainer (3) is located on the inlet side of the pump. Engine coolant circulates through the coolant jacket of pump (4) in order to warm the pump housing. The coolant also prevents emulsions from hardening in the pump.

(13) Inlet valves and outlet valvesTwo valves (13) on the right side of the engine allow the coolant to flow to the additive pump. Close valve (13) until the engine reaches operating temperature. When valves (13) are open and the engine is at operating temperature, hot coolant flows to the additive pump through heater lines (11). The coolant softens hardened emulsion that is in the pump.Note: Only use the valves to warm up the additive pump. Do not leave the valves open at all times.
