Cat® data-link circuitThis diagnostic code indicates the Brake ECM is not sending necessary parameters to the Chassis ECM at the proper rate. The parameters update rate generated by the Brake ECM is not correct. The following can cause this code:
Failed Brake ECM fuse
Incorrect Brake ECM software
Incorrect Chassis ECM software
Incompatible software
Harness failure
ECM failureUse a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.System Response:Some implement functions may not work properly.Test Step 1. CHECK THE FUSE
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Check the Brake ECM fuse. Expected Result:Fuse has not failed.Results:
OK - Fuse has not failed. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - Fuse has failed.Repair: Replace the fuse.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SOFTWARE
Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) to verify that the software versions are correct and compatible.Expected Result:The proper software is installed.Results:
OK - The proper software is installed. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The proper software is not installed.Repair: Flash the proper software to the appropriate ECM. Cycle the keyswitch to initialize the new software. Ensure that the diagnostic code is no longer active.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS
Inspect the harness.Clean the harness connector contacts.Inspect the harness connector contacts for corrosion or damage. Inspect the wire insulation for damage caused by heat, corrosion, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each circuit wire.
Reconnect all harness connectors. Verify that the connectors are fully seated and the clips are fastened.
Check for intermittent problems. Using Caterpillar® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET), perform a wiggle test on the harness.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Operate the machine.
Check CID 0533 FMI 14 status.Expected Result:CID 0533 FMI 14 is not active.Results:
OK - CID 0533 FMI 14 is not active.Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor connection at one of the connectors that was checked. Clear the diagnostic code.STOP
NOT OK - CID 0533 FMI 14 is active. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. CHECK THE CAT DATA-LINK CIRCUITThe keyswitch and the disconnect switch are off.
Disconnect the harness from all the ECMs in the Cat data-link circuit.
Measure the resistance between the harness connector contacts for the following:
Brake ECM Cat data-link + and Chassis ECM Cat data-link +
Brake ECM Cat data-link - and Chassis ECM Cat data-link -
Reconnect all disconnected ECMs.Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The Brake ECM may have failed.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Contact the technical communicator at your Cat® dealer. If the ECM requires replacement, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The circuit is shorted.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOP
