Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot an engine overspeed or use this procedure if the following event code is active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes. For information on the engine monitoring system, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System".Note: Some of the following codes may not be applicable for certain applications.

E190(1)Engine Overspeed The engine rpm has exceeded the trip point for engine overspeed for the delay time. The code is logged.
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) will disable fuel injection for engine speeds that are above the trip point. Probable Causes
Proper operation of the turbocharger
Intake air

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Proper Operation of the Turbocharger
A. Check for proper operation of the turbocharger.
B. Check for any oil that may be leaking into the air inlet.
Turbocharger
Result: The turbocharger is leaking oil into the inlet.
Repair or replace the turbocharger.
Result: The turbocharger is not leaking oil into the inlet.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
3. Intake Air
A. Check for combustible gases in the surrounding atmosphere.
B. Check for proper operation of starting aids (if equipped).
Air quality
Result: The atmosphere has combustible gases.
Do not operate the engine in an environment with combustible gases.
Complete the procedure in the order in which the steps are listed.The procedure corrected the issue.
