Service Magazine SEPD1370, 15 December 2011, "A New Service Tool for Installing the Service Sleeve Bearings in Hydraulic Gear Pumps Is Now Available for Certain CAT Machines". Disregard this article. Refer to the information that follows.A new service tool 385-8731 Tool Kit for the bearing sleeve installation is available to keep bearing sleeves from being damaged during installation. The new tool kit properly sets the recessed depth of the bearing sleeve to provide adequate bearing lubrication.The following points to be noted when replacing the bearing sleeves:
Do not lower the temperature of bearings prior to installation because low temperature will cause the babbitt to separate from the steel backing.
The inside diameter of the bearing sleeve must be 31.798 0.039 mm (1.2519 0.0015 inch) after installation.
After installation shafts should rotate freely by hand.
After three attempts, if inside diameter of bearing sleeve does not measure 31.798 0.039 mm (1.2519 0.0015 inch), replace pump housing.
