Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove four bolts (3) and washers in order to remove suction screen cover (2).
Remove suction screen cover (2), suction screen (6), and magnetic tube assembly (5). Note: Some oil may drain from the torque converter housing when suction screen cover (2) is removed. Ensure that a suitable container is in place in order to capture any oil that may drain from the torque converter housing.
Inspect suction screen (6) and the magnets of magnetic tube assembly (5) for large particles of debris. An excessive amount of debris may be an indication of possible failure. Also, oil contamination may require you to change the transmission oil. If large particles are found, consult your Cat dealer for further analysis and additional guidance.
Do not drop or rap the magnets against any hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.
Wash suction screen (6) and magnetic tube assembly (5) in clean, nonflammable solvent. Clean the magnets with a cloth, a stiff bristle brush or air pressure.
Install magnetic tube assembly (5) and suction screen (6).

Inspect seal (4) in suction screen cover (2). If the seal is damaged, replace the seal.
Install suction screen cover (2) with four bolts (3) and washers.
Adjust the oil level in the transmission case. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Ensure that the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position. Crank the engine for 15 seconds. Do not allow the engine to start.
Check the oil level with sight gauge (1) on the side of the transmission case. Repeat Step 8 through Step 9 until the oil level is between the "ADD" mark and the "FULL" mark on the "COLD" side of the sight gauge.
Start the engine and operate the engine at LOW IDLE. Check for leaks and make necessary repairs.
Observe the oil level when the oil is warm and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position.
Maintain the oil level between the "ADD" mark and the "FULL" mark on "HOT" side of the sight gauge (1).
Stop the engine and add oil, if necessary.
Failure to properly fill the transmission tank after an oil change may cause damage to the transmission clutches. Follow the procedure that is described above.The transmission direction and speed control MUST be left in NEUTRAL until the system is full.
