With all other bearings loose and without seals installed, torque needed to turn output shaft ... 19.2 6.8 N m (170 60 lb.in.) (12) Rubber toric seals and all surfaces in contact with them must be clean and dry at assembly. Put a thin layer of oil on the contacting surfaces of the metal seals before installation.(13) Torque for bolt ... 1190 110 N m (880 80 lb.ft.)(14) Dimension, retainer to retainer ... 2.29 0.51 mm (.090 .020 in.)Adjustment Procedure For Output Shaft Bearings
1. Remove the 8K1961 Cage (1), the 8K1965 Cover (7) and the 8K631 Gear (2).2. Install the 8K3525 Pinion (9) on the 9K9150 Shaft (8) with the 9K9146 Retainer (10). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 1190 110 N m (880 80 lb.ft.).3. Assemble the pinion and shaft into the case. Remove the 9K9145 Shim Pack (5) from between the 9K9131 Output Gear (6) and the 3V8965 Retainer (3).4. Use new 3D4041 Bolts (4) at the top of the shaft. Tighten the bolts evenly in steps. At the same time, make a constant check of the torque needed to rotate the shaft. Tighten the bolts until the torque needed to turn the shaft is 19 7 N m (14 5 lb.ft.).5. Use a depth micrometer and measure the distance from the top of the shaft to the top of the retainer.6. Remove the retainer and measure its thickness with a micrometer.7. Subtract the thickness of the retainer from the measurement found in step 5. The difference is the correct thickness for the 9K9145 Shim Pack to be installed.8. Install the retainer again on top of the shaft with the correct shim thickness under it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 20 lb.ft.).9. Check the torque needed to turn the shaft. If it is not 19 7 N m (14 5 lb.ft.), the adjustment is not correct and must be done again.10. When the adjustment is correct, assemble the remainder of the swing drive.
