Set the number one cylinder at the top center position (compression stroke). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Finding Top Center Position for No. 1 Piston".

Rotate the lash adjustment piston in a clockwise direction.

Perform the following steps in order to set the brake lash for the numbers 1, 3, and the 5 cylinders. (a) Loosen screw (2) (several turns) and hold the lash adjusting piston (3). (b) Turn lash adjusting piston (3) counterclockwise until the brake adjusting screw (4) contacts the top of the exhaust valve bridge pin (5). (c) Back off lash adjusting piston (3) in a clockwise direction for one complete revolution plus 90 degrees. Refer to illustration 94. (d) Hold lash adjusting piston (3). Tighten screw (2) to a torque of 4.5 0.5 N m (40 4 lb in).
Turn the crankshaft for 360 degrees. Set the number 6 cylinder at the top center position (compression stroke).
Set the brake lash for the numbers 2, 4, and the 6 cylinders. Perform steps 2 in order to set the brake lash for the numbers 2, 4, and the 6 cylinders.
