Illustration 1 g03334545The CID 3252 is associated with the "Key Switch - ON" relay. The FMI 14 diagnostic code is recorded when the Remote Control ECM reads Special instructionThe possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
L906-YL(Yellow) circuit open
C980-YL(Yellow) circuit open
A318-BU(Blue) circuit open
A318-BU(Blue) circuit shorted to ground
Machine Power relay coil has failed
The ECM has failed, however ECM failure is unlikelyBefore performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean and secure. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3252 FMI 14 is active before performing this procedure.

High Low High CID 3252 - FMI 14 Test Step 1. CHECK THE L906-YL(Yellow) and C980-YL(Yellow) CIRCUIT WIRING
Power the RC system.
Use the RC startup procedure, to the point of powering up the cab. (no need to start the engine).
At the RC ECM confirm the power state at pin 23 (A318-BU(Blue)), pin 2 (L906-YL(Yellow)), and pin 3 (C980-YL(Yellow)). Expected Result:With the RC system powered pins 2, 3, and 23 should read 24 V.Results:
OK - The check agrees all three pins have machine power. Proceed to Test Step 2
NOT OK - On the RC ECM: pin 23 (A318-BU(Blue)) is High (machine power) and pin 2 (L906-YL(Yellow)) and/or pin 3 (C980-YL(Yellow)) is Low.Repair: Check the L906-YL(Yellow) or C980-YL(Yellow) circuit that is reading low for an open. Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE A318-BU(Blue) CIRCUIT WIRING
Repair: Reconnect the RC system harness connectors. Verify that the diagnostic code has been corrected. If the cause of the problem is not found, contact the Cat dealer for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the ECM requires replacement, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - On the RC ECM: pin 23 (A318-BU(Blue)) is Low (machine power) and pin 2 (L906-YL(Yellow)) and/or pin 3 (C980-YL(Yellow)) is High.Repair: Check the A318-BU(Blue) circuit for an open or short to ground. Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE MACHINE POWER RELAY (WILL ALSO RAISE
