The SPS342 base consists of four major components. There are two skids and two cages that make up the base. The base is designed for lifting from one of the three separate methods.The front and rear pipes are designed for lifting of the entire skid with the proper spreader bar. When the skid is lifted with a spreader bar ensure that the bolts that join the skid are installed and torqued.Each frame has 4 lifting brackets that are suitable for lifting the entire skid or the individual frames.Each frame contains a pair of tubes for a fork lift that are integral to the design of the base. A split skid can be lifted with a suitable fork lift.
Improper lift rigging can allow unit to tumble causing injury and damage.
Splitting
The SPS342 is designed to allow the splitting of the engine and the pump for either the ease of lifting or the ease of servicing.
Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a system under pressure.Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.Do not remove or disconnect hoses or fittings until all pressure in the hydraulic system has been relieved.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Before splitting the skid, disconnect all of the lines from the engine to the triplex pump.
Disconnect the pressure line for the power end lubrication, the capillary tube, and the two oil cooler lines.
Secure the loose hose ends to the engine side.Note: An isolation valve is provided for the capillary tube that is for the temperature sensor.
Close the isolation valve prior to the splitting of the skid.Note: Remember to open the isolation valve after the reconnection of the skid.
If the batteries are located on the pump side of the skid, disconnect the battery cables and secure the battery cables to the engine side of the skid.
Remove the bolts from the engine side of the driveline and remove all the steel wedges from the base and from the frame.
