Your engine may not have the same gauges or all of the gauges that are described. For more information about the gauge package, see the literature from the OEM .Gauges provide indications of engine performance. Ensure that the gauges are in good working order and determine the normal operating range of each gauge for the application over a period of time.Noticeable changes in gauge readings indicate a potential problem with the engine. Problems may also be indicated by gauge readings that change even if the readings are within specifications. Determine the cause of any significant change in the readings and/or correct the cause of any significant change in the readings. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for assistance.
Engine Oil Pressure - Typical oil pressure for an engine at rated speed with SAE 10W30 or with SAE 15W40 is 275 to 606 kPa (40 to 88 psi).A lower oil pressure is normal at low idle. If the load is stable and the gauge reading drops, perform the following procedure:
Remove the load.
Reduce engine speed to low idle.
Shut down the engine, and allow time for the oil to settle back into the engine oil pan.
Check the oil level. Maintain the oil level at the proper amount. The "Low Engine Oil Pressure" parameter for the programmable monitoring system should be programmed to "Derate" or "Shutdown" in order to protect the engine against damage from low engine oil pressure. Refer to the table 1 for more information.

Engine Coolant Temperature - Typical temperature range is 87 to 98°C (189 to 208°F). The maximum allowable programmable temperature is 104 °C (220 °F) for warning, 106 °C (222 °F) for derate mode, and 107 °C (224 °F) for shutdown mode. The reading of the coolant temperature may vary according to the load.
Tachometer - This gauge indicates engine speed (rpm).
System Voltage - This gauge indicates the level of voltage in the electrical system.
Ammeter - This gauge indicates the amount of current in the electrical system. Operation of the indicator should be to the positive side of "0"(zero). If the indicated amperage is on the minus side of the gauge, the charging circuit is not able to satisfy the electrical load in the electrical system, so the battery will discharge.
Fuel Pressure - This gauge indicates fuel pressure. The indicator should indicate the "NORMAL" range. Typical fuel pressure at low idle is 510 kPa (74 psi). Maximum fuel
