Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies to prevent fluid loss, and to keep contaminants from entering the system.Note: Put orientation and location marks on all fittings for installation purposes.

Disconnect tube assemblies (1) , (2) , (3) and (4) . Plug tube assemblies (3) and (4) with Tooling (A) .

Disconnect tube assembly (7) .
Disconnect cable assembly (5) and disconnect cable assembly (6) .

Disconnect flame detection temperature sensor (8) .

Remove nuts (14) and spacers (13) .
Remove combustion head (12) .
Remove gasket (11) and remove tube assembly (10) .
Remove gasket (9) .Installation Procedure

B     4C-5597     Anti-Seize Compound     1    Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

Note: The gaskets are for one time use only. Replace with new gaskets upon installation.
Install gasket (9) and install tube assembly (10) .
Install gasket (11) and install combustion head (12) .
Apply Tooling (B) onto the threads of the studs and nuts (14) . Install spacers (13) and nuts (14) . Tighten nuts (14) in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 23 3 N m (17 2 lb ft). Tighten nuts (14) again in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft). Tighten nuts (14) again in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of flame detection temperature sensor (8) . Connect flame detection temperature sensor (8) . Tighten flame detection temperature sensor (8) to a torque of 45 5 N m (33 4 lb ft).
