Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install two guide bolts (2) for each gasket on the aftercooler. Put gaskets (1) in position on the cylinder block.

Fasten a hoist to rear aftercooler (3). Put 7M-7456 Bearing Mount Compound on the threads of bolts (4). Install the aftercooler. Install the bolts that hold the aftercooler in place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 50 10 N m (37 7 lb ft).

Be sure that the O-ring seals are in position in the ends of pipes (6). Put glycerin on the O-ring seals.
Fasten a hoist to the front aftercooler. Put the aftercooler in position on the cylinder block and install the bolts.
Install the bolts that hold pipes (6) to the rear aftercooler.
Put glycerin in the bore of the pipes (5) and (7) and in the seals. Install the pipes in the area between the front aftercooler and the rear aftercooler on the O-ring seals. Note: Put glycerin on all of the O-ring seals before assembly.

Put elbow (11) in position on the aftercooler and on tube (10). Install the bolts and spacers (12).
Install the retainers and bolts that hold tube (10) in place in elbow (11).
Be sure that the O-ring seals are in place in flanges (8). Install the flanges and tube (9) as an assembly.

Install housings (13) and (17) on the rear aftercooler housing with bolts (14) and (16).
Install tube (18).
Install bolt (15) in order to connect the linkage.

Install pipes (19) in housing (17).
Put the gaskets in the area between the turbochargers and elbows (20) and (21). Install the elbows.
Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operation And Maintenance Guide. End By:
Install the exhaust manifolds.
