Illustration 2 g01252224
Shows the 284-0837 Holding Fixture and 288-7353 Special Bolt (SHEAR) for a transmission installed.Note: The autocalibration service tool is primarily needed for transmissions that are placed in pump applications where a driveline brake or park brake is typically not available. If transmission is to be calibrated on a skid (engine, transmission, and radiator) then the service tool will be required. If the transmission is to be calibrated after it has been installed on a rig, the service tool may not be necessary. On work-over rigs, the vehicle service brake can be used to stall the transmission output shaft, thus not requiring the use of the service tool. However, on pumpers which are not able to use the vehicle service brake to stall the transmission output shaft, the service tool will be required for the calibration. The transmission is to be in neutral when the 284-0837 Holding Fixture Tool is used. Placing the transmission in gear will break the 288-7353 Special Bolt (SHEAR) on the holding fixture.Note: Autocalibration is performed any time an engine is mated to a transmission, on a transmission/engine package that has not been calibrated by the factory. Units are shipped this way. Failure to calibrate the transmission may impact transmission reliability and performance. A transmission should NOT be operated without calibration, except in the event of rig start up.A calibration should be performed after every circumstance of:
Transmission to engine mating.
Transmission/engine package not calibrated before shipping.
Engine rebuild or turbo swap.
Transmission ECPC valve replacement.
ECU replacement.
Transmission planetary iron disassembly/reassembly/repair.Use the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to perform calibration procedures. Select the "CALIBRATION" option from the ET menu. Follow the instructions that are provided. The calibration procedures are performed in order to compensate for the variations in the components that are attached to the transmission/chassis electronic control module. The ECU must detect the following conditions before starting the calibration procedure:
See the provided graphics for the correct transmission oil temperature.
The shift lever is placed in the NEUTRAL position.
The parking brake is applied.
Set the engine speed to low idle. The engine will accelerate automatically during the calibration procedure. An error message will be displayed if the set up conditions are not met. The operator will not be allowed to continue the set up process. If any of these conditions are not met during the calibration procedure, the procedure is aborted immediately.Fill Calibration
Illustration 3 g01053300
The fill calibration function is used in order to optimize the shift quality. This calibration procedure must be performed under the following conditions:
Perform the calibration before the machine is delivered to the customer.
Perform the calibration after replacing or servicing the ECU.
Perform the calibration after the moving of an ECU from one machine to another machine.
Perform the calibration after replacing or servicing any of the transmission solenoid valves.
Perform the calibration after replacing or servicing any of the transmission clutches, seals, pumps, etc.Two parameters are adjusted during the fill calibration, pulse time and hold level. The hold level is calibrated first. The
