Series II (95U3205-Up) Grapple SkiddersReference: Service Manual Module, SENR4976, Supplement, 518 Series II Skidder.There may be some misunderstanding as to when the 4E7134 Pedal (Neutralizer) Assembly should actually contact the 9G2795 Roller (Transmission Neutralizer) Switch. The switch is part of the 4E6966 Brake Control Group, and is physically mounted onto the 4E7122 Bracket.
The position of the switch is fixed, and therefore, can not be adjusted. In order for the switch to actuate and neutralize the transmission, the service brakes must be engaged by depressing the right pedal assembly almost all the way down. Switch actuation does NOT occur at the start of the right pedal assembly travel.
The reason the transmission neutralizer switch operates this way is to prevent excessive loading on the transmission components. Excessive transmission component loading could occur if a machine were to coast down a hill while the transmission was neutralized, and then suddenly engage the transmission.
Another concern is that an operator may try to use the neutralizer pedal as an "inching" pedal. However, neither the neutralizer system nor the transmission clutches are designed for this type of operation.
The general operation of the neutralizer system is explained in the Reference. Also, because there is not a single Parts Manual group, the following groups (none of which are serviced as a group) are listed for reference.
The fuse is in the 4E6989 Gauge Group, the mechanical linkage is in the 4E6966 Brake Control Group, the air lines are in the 4E6964 Air Lines Group, the wiring is in the 4E7108 Battery & Wiring Group, and the transmission control changes are in the 8E3678 Transmission Arrangement.
