DEF tank Filler Cap
Clean blue DEF tank filler cap (1) and the surrounding area.
Remove the blue DEF tank filler cap.
Fill the tank with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).Note: Do not fill the DEF tank from a contaminated container or funnel.Note: Do not over fill the tank. DEF can freeze and needs room for expansion.Note: When filling the DEF tank with the engine start switch in the on position, the reverse alarm will sound when the tank is full.
Install the blue DEF tank filler cap.Fill the DEF tank every time the fuel tank is filled. DEF tank filler cap (2) is blue in color and is located next to the fuel filler cap. Do not put fuel in the DEF tank.
DEF cap maybe hot.To avoid burn injury use personal protective equipment.Allow the cap to cool before fueling the machine.
DEF solution is typically colorless and clear. Changes to color or clarity are indicators of quality issues. DEF can degrade when stored and handled inappropriately or if DEF is not protected from contamination.Care should be taken when dispensing DEF. Spills should be cleaned immediately. Machine or engine surfaces should be wiped clean and rinsed with water. Caution should be used when dispensing DEF near an engine that has recently been running. Spilling DEF onto hot components will cause harmful vapors.Follow all local regulations covering the handling.of DEF.The condition of hoses and other nonmetallic that are used with DEF should be monitored for signs of degradation. DEF leaks are easily recognizable by white urea crystals that accumulate at the site of the leak. Solid urea can be corrosive. Leaks should be repaired immediately to avoid damage to surrounding hardware.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for more information on diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) guidelines.Machine Operating Temperature Range
The standard machine configuration is intended for use within an ambient temperature range of −40 °C (−40 °F) to 43 °C (110 °F). Special configurations for different ambient temperatures may be available. Consult your Cat dealer for additional information on special configurations of your machine.Downhill Operation
Maintain a ground speed that is slow enough for the conditions. Before you operate down a hill, select the proper gear before you start down the grade. The proper gear should allow the machine to maintain the appropriate speed on the down grade. The throttle control should not be at high idle and the engine should not overspeed. In most situations, the proper gear will be the same gear that is required to drive up the grade. If the machine builds up excessive speed, the engine can overspeed. Overspeed can result in damage to the engine, the hydraulic pump and/or the power train. Use the service brake pedal to slow the machine until a lower gear can be selected. Select the lower gear and proceed. The brake oil can overheat in the following conditions:
