Remove And Install Contactors
The 3512 and 3516 locomotive engines are equipped with four contactors. These contactors are considered to be protection devices for the engine. There are three pressure and one temperature contactor. Each are preset to specific specification to prevent engine damage. In the event of malfunction or damage, they should be immediately replaced. Do not attempt to disable any of the pressure or temperature contactors. Serious engine damage could occur. If further specification information is required concerning the contactors refer to 3516 Locomotive Engine Specifications Manual Form No. SENR4636 pages 39 and 40. 1. Disconnect line (1) from the contactor. Not all contactors are identical, but all are similar in removal and installation. 2. Loosen four screws (2) and remove cover (3).3. Identify and disconnect wires and remove electrical conduit (4).4. Remove four bolts (5) and remove contactor. Installation of the contactors is accomplished in the exact reverse order from removal.
