Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Strainer

Unlock padlocks (1) on filler caps (2). Remove filler caps (2) slowly in order to relieve the system pressure.

Inspect filler cap gaskets (3). If necessary, replace the filler cap gaskets.
Remove retaining rings (4) .
Pull out strainers (5) .
Wash strainers (5) in clean nonflammable solvent. Inspect the strainers for damage. If necessary, replace the strainers.
Reinstall strainers (5) and associated components.Oil Filter Elements

Unscrew bolts (6) and remove screen assemblies (7) .

Remove cotter pins and washers (8) from bolts (6).

Withdraw screen (7) and filter elements (9). Discard both filter elements.
Wash the screen in clean nonflammable solvent. Inspect the screen for damage. If necessary, replace the screen.
Install two new filter elements (9) into screen (7). Repeat this procedure on second screen assembly.
Assemble and reinstall the screen assembly as a unit. If necessary, use a new O-ring seal. Repeat this procedure on second screen assembly.Brake Oil Cooler Screen Assembly

Remove plug (12) from housing (11). Remove the screen assembly from housing (11) .

Wash screen assembly (14) in clean, nonflammable solvent. If necessary, replace the screen assembly. Inspect O-ring seal (13). If necessary, use a new O-ring seal.
Reinstall screen assembly (14) into housing (11) .
Reinstall plug (12) and the O-ring into housing (11) .
