For removal of the wheels, bearings and duo-cone seals from 657E Scrapers, see 657E Scraper Power Train Disassembly And Assembly section.1. Put the machine on level ground and lower the bowl to the ground.2. Release the emergency and parking brake so the wheel will turn. See Remove Camshaft And Slack Adjusters. 3. Put a 50 ton floor jack (1) in position as shown and lift the scraper so the tire is off the ground. 4. Loosen bolts (2) and cap (3) to drain the oil from the wheel.5. Remove bolts (2) and cap (3) from the wheel. 6. Fasten two cables (5) and a hoist on wheel assembly (4).7. Remove the bolts, retainer (6) and the shims from the wheel spindle. If necessary, use two 1/2"-13 NC forcing screws to remove the retainer.8. Remove the seal from retainer (6). 9. Remove the wheel assembly and outer bearing cone (7) from the wheel spindle. The weight of the wheel assembly is 2520 kg (5555 lb.). 10. Remove outer duo-cone seal (8) from the wheel assembly. 11. Use tooling (A) and remove outer bearing cup (9) from the wheel assembly. Fasten a strap and a hoist to the tooling so it does not fall after the bearing cup is removed.12. Use tooling (A) and remove the inner bearing cup and ring (10) as a unit from the wheel assembly. Fasten a strap and a hoist on the tooling so the tooling does not fall when the bearing cup and the ring are removed. 13. Remove inner bearing cone (12) from the wheel spindle.14. Remove inner duo-cone seal (11) from the retainer. 15. Remove retainer (13) from the wheel spindle.16. If necessary, remove the dowel from the wheel spindle. 17. Remove seal (14) from the retainer.Install Wheels, Bearing And Duo-Cone Seals (651E Scraper)
1. Lower the temperature of outer bearing cup (3) and install in the wheel assembly.2. Lower the temperature of ring (1) and inner bearing cup (2). Install ring (1) and inner bearing cup (2) in the wheel assembly as shown. 3. Inspect seal (4) for wear or damage and make a replacement if necessary.4. Put clean oil on seal (4) and install it on retainer (5). 5. If dowel (6) was removed, install it in the wheel spindle 3.6 0.2 mm (.142 .008 in.) above the outside surface.6. Make an alignment of the notch in retainer (5) and dowel (6). Install retainer (5) on the wheel spindle.
The duo-cone seals come in sets and can not be interchanged with other duo-cone seals.
7. Duo-cone seals must be clean and dry at assembly. For the correct installation of the duo-cone seals, see Duo-Cone Floating Seals.8. Use tool (A) and install inner duo-cone seal (7) in retainer (5). Put a
