Pressure Regulating System

Pressure regulating valve (1) Adjustment screw. (2) Regulator inlet. (3) Regulator outlet.Check and adjust the pressure regulating valve by using the following procedure:
Drain the line to the pressure regulating valve or drain the air storage tank.
Disconnect the regulator from the starter control valve.
Connect the 8T-0849 Pressure Gauge Group to the regulator outlet (3) .
Put air pressure in the line or in the tank.
Check the pressure.
Adjust the pressure regulating valve to 620 to 1030 kPa (90 to 150 ).
Remove the air pressure from the line or from the tank.
Remove the 8T-0849 Pressure Gauge Group and connect the air pressure regulator to the line to the air starting motor.Each engine application must be inspected. This will give the most acceptable starting results. The following factors affect the settings for the pressure regulating valve.
Loads that are placed on the engine during starting
Ambient temperature conditions
Oil viscosity
Capacity of air reservoir
Condition of the engineThe advantage of setting the valve at the higher pressures is the increased torque for the starting motor and the faster rotation of the engine. The amount of time for engine rotation is increased when the valve is set at lower pressures. The amount of time for engine rotation is dependent upon the amount of supply air that is available.Lubrication
Always use an air line lubricator with the air starting motors that have vanes.For temperatures above 0 °C (32 °F), use SAE 10W nondetergent motor oil.For temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), use air tool oil. To maintain the efficiency of the starting motor, flush the starting motor at regular intervals. Pour 0.5 L (0.5 qt)diesel fuel into the air inlet of the starting motor. Operate the starting motor. This procedure will remove the following items from the vanes of the air starting motor.
