Location of the dual speed control system components (1) Wall mounted transmitter (2) Antenna (3) Warning lamp panel (4) Engine ECM (5) Retarder control valve (6) Mobile transmitter (7) Power Train/Chassis ECM (8) Dual speed controlThe Dual Speed Control System uses radio transmitters that are placed in various locations to automatically limit the maximum speed of the machine. The dual speed control system utilizes two separate speed limit settings, the machine upper speed limit and the machine lower speed limit. When the machine passes within range of a green upper speed limit transmitter the dual speed control system will interpret the signal and will allow the machine to operate up to the machine upper speed limit setting. When the machine passes within range of a red lower speed limit transmitter the dual speed control will interpret the signal and will allow the machine to operate up to the machine lower speed limit. The machine upper speed limit and the machine lower speed limit can be changed using Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). The components of the dual speed control system are wall mounted transmitter (1), or mobile transmitter (6), antenna (2), warning lamp panel (3), Engine ECM (4), retarder control valve (5), Power Train/Chassis ECM (7) and dual speed control (8) .Two types of transmitters are used. Wall mounted transmitters (1) and mobile transmitters (6). The transmitters are programmed to signal the machine upper speed limit or the machine lower speed limit.Wall mounted transmitters (1) or mobile transmitters (6) transmit a radio signal to antenna (2). This signal is sent to dual speed control (8). Dual speed control (8) interprets the information and switches the internal contacts. Dual speed control (8) sends a signal to Power Train/Chassis ECM (7) .Machine Lower Speed Limiting
The machine lower speed limit will be activated when antenna (2) detects the radio signal from the red lower speed limit transmitter. Antenna (2) sends a signal to dual speed control (8). The dual speed control (8) interprets the information and switches the internal contacts.Dual speed control (8) sends a signal to Power Train/Chassis ECM (7). Power Train/Chassis ECM (7) interprets the information and sends a signal to warning lamp panel (3) to turn on the dual speed control indicator. The dual speed control indicator will flash when the dual speed control system changes from the machine upper speed limit to the machine lower speed limit. The dual speed control indicator will be off while the dual speed control system is in the machine lower speed limit mode. Power Train/Chassis ECM (7) sends a signal to Engine ECM (4) via the CAT Data Link. Engine ECM (4) will adjust the engine speed and the transmission will down shift until the desired gear and engine rpm are reached. Also, Power Train/Chassis ECM (7) sends a current to the retarder supply solenoids and the retarder control solenoids in retarder control valve (5). The retarder control solenoids control the application of the front and the rear service brakes.
