Illustration 1. The FT1831 Track Roller Trimming Fixture. Before using the roller trimming fixture, remove all the roller assemblies from the machine. It may be necessary to clean them in the 6V4945 Buffer. An air-powered wire wheel can also be used to clean the sides of the flange. A clean, dry, oil-free surface on the roller is required for a quality cut.
Place the roller assembly on the FT1831 Roller Trimming Fixture between the drive wheels and the idler wheels. The drive wheels on the fixture should be centered on the track roller tread. Loosen the hold down bolts and move the torch bracket forward (Illustration 2) until the tip of the torch is even with the edge of the roller flange. Use a scribe or some type of metal marker to make a mark on each flange at 6 mm (.25") in from the outside diameter. This is the amount of material normally removed from the perimeter of the flange.
Move the switch next to the speed controller dial (Illustration 2) to the forward position and turn the dial until the roller is turning at approximately one turn every two minutes. This speed can be adjusted later for a smoother cut, if necessary. Move the switch back to the off position.
Illustration 2. Location of components on FT1831 Roller Trimming Fixture.Adjustment And Use Of The Cutting Torch Flame
Use the following procedure to adjust the cutting torch flame for maximum cutting efficiency while trimming roller flanges.
1. Open the fuel control valve on the torch handle. Adjust the delivery pressure to 34.5-48.3 kPa (5-7 psi) at the tank regulator. Close the fuel control valve at the torch handle. See Illustration 2.2. Open the oxygen control valve on the torch handle completely. This valve will remain open at all times during cutting and adjustments.3. Open the preheat oxygen control valve on the cutting attachment. Adjust the preheat pressure to 345-414 kPa (50 - 60 psi) at the tank regulator. Close the preheat oxygen control valve.4. Open the fuel control valve on the torch handle approximately one-half turn and ignite the fuel. Wear protective goggles to shield the eyes from the bright flame light.5. Continue to increase the fuel supply at the torch handle until the flame clears the end of the cutting tip by approximately 3 mm (.12"). Reduce the fuel supply slightly to return the flame to the cutting tip; see Illustration 3.6. Slowly open the preheat oxygen control valve on the cutting attachment until the preheat flange establishes a sharp inner cone.7. Depress the cutting oxygen lever. The inner cone may become blurred. Adjust the preheat oxygen control valve until the inner cone is sharp again. Observe the length of the cutting lance. The lance appears as a clear area in the inner cone. The length of this lance must be regulated with the oxygen and fuel regulators so that it is slightly longer than the thickness of the flange material to be cut. If the fuel and oxygen pressures were changed,
