The only changes to the Shafts and Carriers are bigger diameter holes to take the bigger pins.Four shafts are required per carrier in each case except for the D10N, which requires five shafts per carrier. If old carriers are still in a reusable condition, they can be modified to take the flew pills by enlarging the holes, as shown in illustration 2, attached.Modifying planet shafts is more difficult because of the hardness of the shafts (Rockwell C45 minimum) but, if this is attempted, the same size hole as for the carrier is required. It is recommended to fit the larger pin's any time the transmission is removed for overhaul.2.The 6Y0296 Centre Shaft Bearings have been replaced by the 106-7798 Bearing, which has a bronze cage, in both the D9N and DION planetary groups. The 106-7798 Bearing is a direct replacement for the 6Y0296 Bearing at both locations. Do NOT reuse the 6Y0296 Bearings at transmission overhaul.3.The 8P7240 Reverse Gear Clutch Carrier has been replaced by the 116-1459 Carrier, which has harder splines, in the D 1 1 N planetary group. The 116-1459 Carrier is a direct replacement for the 8P7240 Carrier.
