Install pin (11) with no shims. Tighten the bolts that hold pin (11).
Install pin (8) with no shims. Install three bolts (5) that hold pin (8) that are equally spaced. Tighten the bolts evenly to a torque of 13 N m (10 lb ft).
Measure the distance from face (4) of pin (8) to the mount on the front frame. Measure through two holes (10) in the retainer. Find the average of the two measurements.
Remove pin (8). Measure the thickness of the top of pin (8). Make a measurement at two holes (10) that were used for the depth measurements. Find the average of the two measurements.
Subtract the thickness of top pin (8) found in Step 4 from the value found in Step 3 for the total shim pack thickness required.
Divide the shim pack thickness so that half the shim pack is installed under pin (8) and the other half is installed under pin (11).
Install bolts (5) for both the pins and tighten to a torque of 240 40 N m (175 30 lb ft). Check that the front axle assembly is centered in the front frame. If the axle assembly is not centered, remove some of the shims from under one pin. Add the shims to the shim pack under the other pin until the axle is centralized.
