General
The hose reel is located on the rear end surface of the outer tube of the telescopic stick. The hydraulic hose for the clamshell bucket line is connected to and coils on the hose reel. The other end of the hose is connected to the clamshell bucket line, running inside the telescopic stick. In conjunction with the sliding movements of the telescopic stick, the hose reel automatically turns in or out to retract (coil) or extend (uncoil) the hydraulic hose of the bucket line. The rotating force of the hose reel is caused by the spiral spring built in the reel drum. As the hose is extended (uncoiled), the spring force for coiling the hose develops. When the hose stops extending and is slackened, the reel drum rotates in the coiling direction by the spring force.Replacing Hydraulic Hose for Bucket Line
When replacing a hydraulic hose for the bucket line, use the following procedure.Procedure for replacing a cut off hose.1. Remove the clamshell bucket from the telescopic stick. See "Removing and Installing Clamshell Bucket." Put the machine in the transportation position.2. Completely release pressure from the hydraulic system and remove the cut off hose. 3. Connect the new hose to the port of the reel drum and rotate the drum clockwise to coil the hose on it. 4. After the hose is coiled on the reel completely, fix the hose end to the drum with adhesive tape. and rotate the drum additional three turns. Start to count the turn just when the drum has been put under load. This will put the drum under enough spring-load for rotating it automatically. 5. With the drum under spring-load, unfix the hose end. Extend and connect the hose to the bucket line in the telescopic stick.Procedure for replacing a damaged hose which is not cut off.If a damaged hydraulic hose is cut off or disconnected during replacement, the reel drum can rotate uncontrolled by the spring force and personal injury can occur. To avoid this, lock the reel drum with a stopper bolt. 1. Lock reel drum (1) with stopper bolt (2), Disconnect hydraulic hoses (3) from the bucket lines. 2. Holding hoses (3) by hand, release drum (1) and completely uncoil and disconnect the hose.3. With drum (1) locked, connect the new hydraulic hoses to the drum. Release the drum and coil the hoses on the reel drum.4. Connect the other end of hoses (3) to the bucket line in the telescopic stick.5. After replacing, start the engine and do a test run of the telescopic stick to be sure that;the reels rotate smoothly, the hydraulic hoses are correctly coiled on the reels with correct tension when the telescopic stick is fully retracted. If found unsatisfactory, locate the cause and have necessary action made.Replacing Hose Reel Spring
If the spiral spring built in the reel drum is broken during operation, there will be no spring force on the reel drum necessary to coil the extended hydraulic hose. When this happens, the hose remains slackened and
