Checking And Adjusting The Pump Drive Gearbox Drive Belts
INADVERTENT STARTING OF THE ENGINE CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH BEFORE WORKING ON THE BELTS.
1. Remove the belt guard.2. Check the gearbox belts for breaks, cracks, burned spots, separation from the tie band or excessive wear. Check the tie bands for fraying, holes or wear. If the condition of any belt band is questionable, replace all belt bands. 3. Check each belt band separately for proper tension by placing a rigid bar across the width of the belt band midway between the gearbox drive sheave and the gearbox sheave, then depressing the band evenly. A 33 pound force should produce a deflection of 3/4 inch. 4. If the tension is not correct, loosen the support clamping bolts and the jam nut on the adjusting bolt, turn the adjusting bolt evenly until the tension is correct, then tighten the jam nut and clamping bolts. Turning the bolt clockwise, viewed from the head end of the bolt, will increase the tension.5. Install the belt guard.Replacing The Pump Drive Gearbox Drive Belts
INADVERTENT STARTING OF THE ENGINE CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH BEFORE WORKING ON THE BELTS.
1. Remove the belt guard.2. Loosen the support clamping bolts and the jam nut on the adjusting bolt, then turn the adjusting bolt to relieve th belt tension. 3. Scribe a mark across each bar and onto the gearbox drive sheave support. Remove the bolts that hold the coupling and coupling adaptor together. Loosen the support mounting bolts and move the bolts that hold the coupling to the engine crankshaft, then remove the coupling and lay it aside.
NEVER PRY A BELT BAND ONTO A PULLEY OR SHEAVE, OR THE BELT BAND WILL BE DAMAGED. ALWAYS USE A NEW MATCHED SET OF BELT BANDS. IF ONLY ONE BELT BAND IS REPLACED, THE NEW BELT BAND WILL BE CARRYING ALL THE LOAD AND WILL FAIL RAPIDLY.
4. Remove the old belt bands from the sheaves and install the new ones. 5. Bolt the coupling to the engine crankshaft. Move the support forward until the scribed marks are aligned, line up the groove in the coupling with the slot in the coupling adaptor, then bolt the coupling to the coupling adaptor. Tighten the support mounting bolts to 150 20 ft.-lbs. 6. Turn the adjusting bolt until the belt tension is correct. Check the tension by placing a rigid bar across the belt band midway between the engine sheave and the gearbox sheave, then depressing the band evenly. A 33 pound force should produce a belt deflection of 3/4 inch. CHECK EACH BELT BAND SEPARATELY.7. When the tension is correct, tighten the jam nut on the adjusting bolt and tighten the support clamping bolts.8. CLEAR THE PUMP DRIVE GEARBOX DRIVE BELT AREA, then start the engine and run it for about 15 seconds to seat the belts. Shut the engine
