44. Remove two bearing cups (62) from output gear case (14).Assemble Transmission Gear (Output)
1. Press guard (1) using Tool (C) and (D) on yoke assembly (2). 2. Install O-ring seal (3) in bore of yoke assembly (2). 3. Press bearing and lip-type seal in bearing carrier (4) using Tooling (C). 4. Place shaft (6) to yoke assembly (5). Secure the yoke assembly with bolt (7). 5. Assemble thrust washer (8) to shaft (6). Install retaining ring (9) with Tooling (B). Install retaining ring (10) with Tooling (A). Assemble O-ring seal (11) to bearing carrier. 6. Lower the temperature of the bearing cups (12). Install the bearing cups in output gear case (13). 7. Install fork (15) and drive dog (14) to output gear case (13). 8. Install yoke assembly (5) with bearing carrier (4) to output gear case (13). Secure with six bolts (16). 9. Heat two bearings (17) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearings (17) on gear (18). 10. Attach Tooling (F) to gear (18). Attach a hoist to the gear. Position gear (18) in output case housing (13). 11. Heat two bearings (19) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the bearings on gear (20). 12. Attach Tooling (E) to gear (20). Fasten a hoist to the gear. Position gear (20) in output case housing (13).13. The mounting face of the output gear case must be clean of used sealant before installation of the plate. 14. The mounting face of plate (21) must be clean of used sealant. 15. Apply 6V-6640 Gasket Maker to the output gear case mounting face. Attach Tooling (E) to plate (21). Place the plate to the output gear case (13). 16. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (22). Install the bearing cup in carrier (23). Callouts O-ring (24) and shims (25) shown in photo are utilized after end play has been established. 17. Install 18 bolts (26) and the plates (brackets) to plate (21).18. Install carrier (23) in output gear case (13) without the O-ring seal (24) and shims (25). Install two of the sixteen bolts (27), 180 degrees across from each other.19. Use the following steps to adjust the lower transfer gear bearing end play. a. Rotate the transfer gear at least three complete revolutions to seat the bearings, and tighten bolts (27) evenly to a torque of 1.7 N m (15 lb in).b. Rotate the transfer gear at least three complete revolutions to seat the bearings, and tighten bolts (27) evenly to a torque of 3.4 N m (30 lb in).c. Use a feeler gauge or a taper gauge, and measure the gap between the cage and the transfer gear case, make the measurement at the edge of the cage in line with the center of two bolts (27). Average the two measurements.d. Add 0.28 mm (.011 in) to the dimension found in Step 19C. This will be the correct thickness of shims that should be used.20. Remove the cage.
