(3) Steering Position Sensor Connector on the Back Side of the Cylinders This diagnostic code is associated with the right steering cylinder position sensor. The position sensor provides a PWM input signal to the Implement ECM and to the Transmission Chassis ECM. The FMI 14 diagnostic code is activated when the ECM detects that the sensor is not responding as expected and no external conditions that could cause this problem have been detected.The sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of approximately 500 Hz. The duty cycle of the PWM signal that is supplied to the ECM is measured in small increments. The changes in the duty cycle of the sensor cannot be measured with a digital multimeter.

The new steering cylinder position sensor can be measured using PWM signals with a meter. Acceptable PWM range is approx. 11% retracted and 76% extended. The Sensor operating frequency is 500 Hz. When the new sensor detects an internal fault, the frequency will drop to 250 Hz and the PWM duty cycle will stay at 50% even when the rod is moved.Note: The new style sensorsdo not need to have trim files downloaded.The new style sensor will use the existing wire harness.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
Mechanical devices are loose or not adjusted correctly.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely. Note: Before performing this procedure, check for an active CID 0041 diagnostic code for the ECM 8 VDC sensor power supply. Correct any problem with the 8 VDC power supply before performing this procedure.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections are often the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE MECHANICAL CONNECTIONS
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Visually inspect the mechanical connections for the right steering cylinder. Verify that all mechanical connections and adjustments for the steering cylinder are in good condition and verify that none of the mechanical connections are loose. Expected Result:All mechanical connections for the steering cylinder are in good condition and no mechanical connections are loose.Results:
OK - All mechanical connections for the steering cylinder are correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All mechanical connections for the steering cylinder are not correct.Repair: Perform the maintenance that is required in order to correct the problem with the mechanical connections for the steering cylinder. After
