Information:
Running Clearance for the Clutch Pack
Illustration 1 g00104572
Typical IllustrationUse this procedure to check for the proper clutch assembly.
Position the assembled clutch group with the shaft in the vertical position. Position the end plate of the clutch upward.
Make sure that the end plate (2) is free.
Position the tip of a dial indicator on the end plate (2) and zero the indicator.
Personal injury can result from applying air pressure without lock ring securely in place. Make sure lock ring (3) is securely in place before applying air pressure to clutch pack.
Apply approximately 140 kPa (20 psi)air pressure into the appropriate passage (1) in the shaft that is being checked.
The end plate (2) should move. The end plate (2) should make contact with the lock ring (3). Determine the distance that the end plate has movedby using the dial indicator. This distance is the running clearance for the clutch pack .Note: If you verify that the running clearances of used clutch packs are within the range of the specification, do not assume that one or two discs are not badly worn. The most effective method that is used to measure clutch wear is disassembling the clutch pack and individually measuring each disc for wear.Note: In order to check the measurement, the running clearance assumes that coned disc springs are not flattened.
