Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the front track roller frames. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Track Roller Frame - Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove the bolts and retainers (1) from the front roller frame (2) .
Remove cylinder (3) from the front roller frame.

Remove bolts (4) and plate assembly (5) .

Remove O-ring seal (7), valve (6), and valve (8) from cylinder (3) .

Remove plug (9) from cylinder (3). Remove the O-ring seal from the plug.

Remove piston (11) .
Remove seal assembly (10) from cylinder (3) .Installation Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Install seal assembly (10) in cylinder (3). Install the seal assembly with the lip toward the inside of the cylinder, as shown.
Align the flat surface (X) on piston (11) with the flat surface inside the cylinder. Install piston (11) in cylinder (3). Install the piston until surface (X) is past the lip of seal assembly (10) .

Install the O-ring seal on plug (9). Install the plug in the cylinder.

Install valves (6) and (8). Put O-ring seal (7) in position on cylinder (3) .

Put plate assembly (5) in position on the cylinder. Install two bolts (4) .
Do the following procedure to evacuate all of the air from the track adjuster.
Fill the track adjuster with SAE 30W oil.
Position the track adjuster on the floor so that piston (11) is down.
Open valves (6) and (8). Push down cylinder (3) on the piston until all of the air is removed from the track adjuster.
Close valves (6) and (8) .

Install cylinder (3) in the front track roller frame, as shown. Put retainers (1) in position. Install the bolts that hold the retainers in place.End By: Install the front track roller frames. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Track Roller Frame - Install".
