Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Identify Open Circuit
A. Identify the connectors and wires in the suspect circuits.
Use the machine Electrical Schematic.
B. Turn the key switch and the disconnect switch OFF.
C. Disconnect the component and the ECM from the harness.
D. At one of the disconnected harness connections, place a jumper wire from the suspect wire contact to frame ground.
E. At the other connector of the harness, measure the resistance from the suspect wire contact to frame ground.
Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this check.
The resistance is below 5 Ω.
OK - The resistance is below 5 Ω.
The circuit is not open.
STOP
NOT OK - The resistance is above 5K Ω.
The circuit is open.
Repair: Repair or replace the harness.
Note: A resistance above 5 Ω but below 5K Ω, indicates a loose or corroded connection.
A resistance above 5K Ω indicates an open.
STOP
