Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement. Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.Connect the steering frame lock between the front and rear frames before working on the machine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Steering frame lock installed
(1) Steering frame lock
Put the machine in straight ahead position and engage the parking brake.
Install steering frame lock (1) so that the machine cannot turn. Stop the engine.

(2) Secondary steering relief valve
The secondary steering relief valve (2) is mounted on the steering control valve.
Remove secondary steering relief valve (2). Secondary steering relief valve (2) can only be bench tested. Insert a plug into the opening in order to prevent debris from entering the secondary steering diverter valve.
The correct pressure of secondary steering relief valve (2) is 19305 170 kPa (2800 25 psi). Note: If the pressure is not correct, the relief valve must be adjusted. Proceed to Step 6 for the adjustment procedure.

Loosen locknut (4) on secondary steering relief valve (2). Turn adjustment screw (3) clockwise in order to increase the pressure of secondary steering relief valve (2). Turn adjustment screw (3) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure of secondary steering relief valve (2).
After the correct pressure setting is obtained, tighten locknut (4)
Install secondary steering relief valve (2).
